Honestly, I’m waking up today upset. Forget upset, I’m ENRAGED. On Friday, two women were murdered and 5 people were wounded at a yoga studio in Florida by a man who identified as an “incel” and who made racist and misogynistic comments in YouTube videos. On October 27th, 11 Jewish people were murdered and 6 Jewish people were injured by a man shouting anti-Semitic slurs. The President and Congress have done nothing. In fact, the President went so far as to blame the synagogue by saying if it had an armed guard, this could have been prevented. On October 24th, Vickie Lee Jones and Maurice Stallard were murdered by a man who a witness says made a racist remark during the shooting. The shooter tried to get into a Black church before killing Jones and Stallard at a Kroger. The shooter has been charged with domestic violence offenses many times and was previously barred from possessing a firearm. On February 14, 17 people were murdered at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The Stoneman Douglas students organized what I thought was a very powerful and poignant rally to demand gun control in this country. THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS DID NOTHING. On October 1, 2017, 58 people were murdered and 527 WERE WOUNDED by a shooter at an outdoor concert in Las Vegas. THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS DID NOTHING. Of course there are many more shootings I could list, but I’m going to stop there. At this point, there is nowhere in America you can go and be safe and our President and Congress seem unwilling to do anything about it. Instead, our President is using racist rhetoric to tell Americans they should be scared of Brown “invaders” and not the white men who are already here committing mass shootings. Honestly, we should all be screaming in the streets right now. I guess voting is one way of doing that. If you’re as angry, hurt and fed up as I am, please vote on Tuesday if you haven’t. Because if you don’t, come 2020, there may not be many of us left to do so. And no, this post didn’t start out as a way to encourage people to vote, but I don’t know what else to do at this point and voting for people who want to enact gun control laws is one of the things I can think of that will make this country safer. #GettingOffSoapboxNow
